He is known to be the very first male trainee in Pledis Entertainment. In 2017, JR, along with three other members of NU'EST, was apart of the survival show, Produce 101 Season 2. However, he did not end up in top 11, Wanna One. He appeared in Hello Venus' video for the song ''Venus'', As Blue's video for the song ''Wonder Boy'' and Orange Caramel's ''Bangkok City''.
